The Magic of Rainbow Falls
About five years ago, in mid-2020, we received the most potent dream we have ever had. It opened up an expansive and expanding world we can return to in dreams, meditation and visioning. This open, loving, peaceful and joyful world has served as both a refuge as well as an inspiration. A world we began to refer to as, “the land where our soul is from,” based on a Robert Glasper song featuring Erykah Badu we heard around the same time, Afro Blue.
At the center of this soul dream world was a beautiful and magical waterfall that fell into a pristine round lake filled with healing crystals and lovely animals such as giant sea turtles and dolphin. Standing in the lake was a beautiful goddess, Apsara Devi G. She is a goddess associated with dance, the erotic and the healing powers of connecting deeply with Mother Earth and the natural elements, especially water and flowers. We were standing in the water across from Apsara Devi G, both of us completely naked, feeling serene and happy. Her profound words to us, that we continue to hear today, were:
“आप में कोई कमी नही है (aap meh koi kamee nahee hai).” Hindi for, “there is nothing lacking in you.” A confirmation to support us through the transformation we were undergoing, embracing our limitlessness, Shiva-nature and creative power (Shakti). With an upbringing based in mid-western culture in the United States, embracing and living aligned with our ancestral roots in Indian culture can sometimes create a kind of cognitive dissonance that leaves us feeling less than and pressured to conform. This beautiful refrain stated in her loving, sensual voice emerges to support us through moments of discord as we continue to hold a steady, joyful and abundant balance between our Indian heritage, American & Turtle Island upbringing and radically changing world.
“आप सब से ऊपर वालें हो (aap sub se ooppar valeh ho).” Hindi for, “you are above all.” Combined with the message above, we took this to mean we were whole and complete just as we were and it was solely our responsibility to realize the heightened dreams, insights and visions we were now receiving. We were being gifted with the confidence and courage to trust our Highest and Truest Self, honor our unique gifts, experiences and perspectives in this life and share them honestly. We were told these gifts were coming to us because we took the time to grieve our perceived losses in life as well as the shared grief that came from being in community with folks that had suffered significant trauma in this life and intergenerationally. We created sacred space for ourselves to cry tears of compassion for ourselves and all beings as guided through our Buddhist teachings and practice. It was as though Apsara Devi G saw, heard and felt us, and was representing all women, queer, Hindu, Buddhist, Muslim, Black and Indigenous folks (BIPOC) on lands ranging from the Americas to India in gratitude for our care. With our shared presence in the water in this glorious place, our energies combined with the women, queer, Hindu, Buddhist, Muslim, Black and Indigenous communities we felt Apsara Devi G was representing and we realized a greater sense of unity and oneness with these communities alongside all beings.
Around this lovely waterfall and healing lake, a peaceful, loving, joyful world unfolded, inspiring images, characters and stories we have been forming into a film and inclusive new media platform. As this soul world reveals itself, we feel emboldened, inspired and happier in life. Though the dream came to us in relation to the tears we had shed for the suffering within and in the world, we felt our resilience grow in the face of experiencing further trauma or learning about the suffering of others. We could now hold these experiences without crying and the tears that do come to us now are related to overwhelming emotional shifts we experience, usually related to expanding, connecting and joyfulness. Our sorrowful tears are saved for another day.
After about three years of receiving the initial dream and spending hours recording our subsequent dreams and visions related to this paradise, we manifested the opportunity to travel to Hawaii for ten days. The first photo we saw when planning our trip online was of a waterfall that looked exactly like the waterfall at the center of our dream! Rainbow Falls in Hilo on the Big Island of Hawai’i. Though the place was completely unbeknownst to us, we had to go. The uncanny resemblance to the waterfall in our soul dream, the spiritual energy and the attunement we felt when seeing photos of Rainbow Falls and the surrounding area all called us to make the pilgrimage.
On our first visit to Rainbow Falls, we were mesmerized. The sound of the water moving was soothing and transporting. We happened upon many other symbols and experiences from our soul dream right here on Earth in a truly transcendent visit. We are blessed to receive this magical connection between the Above, spirit, dream world and the real world here below, with our Mother Earth. We are grateful to the powerful mana, or spiritual energy, emanating from Hawaii into our dreams, calling us to this beautiful island. We look forward to learning more about this mana, the ‘āina (land) and understanding how we can best be of service here as our soul dream world further reveals itself to us and we continue to develop stories and films inspired by this land where our soul is from.
